Antigua and Barbuda’s road rehabilitation programme is expected to accelerate as the government moves closer to accessing US$33 million from the Caribbean Development Bank.

Cabinet was informed that the loan should be disbursed within days, once the remaining contractual requirements are satisfied. The CDB financing complements an EC$100 million bond secured for road improvements nationwide.

In Barbuda, work on the Two Mile Road between the airport and River Dock is scheduled to begin shortly. The project is expected to take eight weeks, with an independent monitor appointed to supervise construction.

A contractor operating in both Antigua and Barbuda has been selected, while several other roads on Barbuda have been earmarked for rehabilitation.

Works Minister Maria Browne described the programme as one of the country’s largest road infrastructure investments in recent years. She said it is intended to strengthen connectivity, resilience and national development.

Cabinet said further updates will be issued as projects begin across the country.
