The Antigua National Taxi Association (ANTA) has re-elected Gregory Shoy “Driftwood” Athill as president following its biennial general election held Aug. 5.

Athill, who led the “Dedicated to Excellence” team, secured a decisive victory over the other contenders, earning a second term at the helm of the association.

First elected in 2024 under the theme “Restructure and Unity,” Athill has spent the past two years overseeing efforts to strengthen ANTA’s finances and organisational structure. According to the association, its assets have tripled during his tenure, while member services and financial stability have improved.

His administration has also introduced ongoing hospitality and customer service training for taxi operators as part of efforts to improve the visitor experience.

ANTA has worked with government ministries, hotels, tourism officials and private-sector stakeholders to expand opportunities for its members and strengthen their role in Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism industry.

In his acceptance address, Athill thanked his executive team and ANTA members for their support and described the result as “a victory for unity, professionalism, and the continued advancement of the Association.”

Athill also thanked the government and Prime Minister Gaston Browne, highlighting a commitment to provide land to the association through the Ministry of Agriculture. He described the development as a historic milestone for ANTA.

He also acknowledged Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority for their continued partnership with the association.

Athill said his second-term priorities will include improving member welfare, expanding training opportunities, strengthening partnerships and raising professional standards within the taxi industry.
