The Minister of Education, Science and Technology and the Honorable Daryll S. Matthew, met with the outgoing Board of Directors of the Sir Luther Wynter Pre-School to formally thank members for their years of voluntary service and stewardship of one of Antigua and Barbuda’s most respected early childhood institutions.

The meeting, held at the Office of the Minister of Education, brought together board members alongside senior officials of the Ministry to discuss the transition of the school into the Government’s expanding network of early childhood education centers, a move approved by Cabinet in June 2026.

Founded more than fifty years ago by the late Dean Idris Bird, the Sir Luther Wynter Pre-School currently has a student population of over 40 students and has earned recognition as a UNESCO model school, continuing to serve as a teaching-practice site for early childhood education students at the University of the West Indies Global Campus.

Minister Matthew commended the outgoing Board for its diligence and commitment, noting that the institution’s decades-long legacy of nurturing young minds was made possible by the quiet, sustained work of volunteers who gave their time without expectation of recognition.

“On behalf of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, I want to express our sincere gratitude to this Board for its years of dedicated service. What you have built here — a nurturing, high-quality foundation for our youngest citizens — does not happen by accident. It happens because people choose, year after year, to show up for children who are not their own. As we transition Sir Luther Wynter into our expanded early childhood network, we do so committed to preserving everything that makes this institution special, and building on it,” said Minister Matthew.

The Ministry reaffirmed its full commitment to early childhood education as a national priority, noting that the transition of Sir Luther Wynter Pre-School forms part of a broader effort to expand access to quality early learning, including planned, new centers in the Judges Hill and Jennings communities. The Ministry assured parents, staff, and the wider community that continuity of care and quality of instruction will remain paramount throughout the transition.

The Ministry extended an invitation to members of the outgoing Board to remain engaged with the institution in an advisory capacity as the transition proceeds.
