The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party headquarters could temporarily host classes for the new law programme at The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne said approximately 65 students enrolled in the programme following more than 100 applications, creating a need for a large and centrally located teaching space.

Browne said the roughly 5,000-square-foot People’s Place facility could be rented for a nominal fee. He argued that the arrangement could prevent the government from spending nearly US$1 million on large temporary tents.

The Prime Minister stressed that no political activities would take place at the headquarters while it is being used for classes.

However, he described the facility as a possible last resort because of its association with the governing party and said the proposal would be discussed with the relevant committee.

Browne also suggested installing a retractable canopy outside the building to provide additional space.
