JetBlue Airways will operate its final scheduled flights between New York and Antigua and Barbuda today, ending the route earlier than initially announced.

Flight B6743 is scheduled to arrive at V.C. Bird International Airport from John F. Kennedy International Airport at approximately 2:37 p.m. The aircraft will return to New York as flight B6740.

The airline had previously planned to end the service after October 31, but later schedule changes brought the withdrawal forward. A proposed resumption in late October has also been cancelled.

JetBlue, which began serving Antigua in 2015, is cutting several routes as it redirects aircraft to expand its Fort Lauderdale operations.

The departure ends an 11-year direct connection between Antigua and Barbuda and the important New York tourism and diaspora market. Tourism officials have said they will continue working with airline partners to maintain and strengthen air access from North America.
