Agriculture Minister Anthony Smith says work is underway across Antigua and Barbuda to improve water access and strengthen infrastructure for farmers.

Smith said the Agriculture Heavy-Duty Equipment Department is building dams and ponds while clearing agricultural land and waterways.

He identified inadequate water supplies as one of the biggest challenges facing the sector and said the current work forms part of the government’s response.

Smith said larger dams and other water-retention and conservation projects are also planned as part of efforts to support agricultural production.
