Award-winning luxury lifestyle magazine founder Michelle Devonish, the British creative entrepreneur of Antiguan parentage behind KQ-Empire, has confirmed that the publication’s highly anticipated Issue 13 and accompanying red-carpet soirée event will return in 2027, following a serious road traffic accident she sustained in Antigua earlier this year.
Devonish arrived on the island in April, with her brand pivoting into new and exciting territories in Antigua and across the region. Her goal is to further develop the KQ-Empire brand and strengthen its relationship with Antigua’s fashion and lifestyle community, emerging designers, and creative talent from across the Caribbean.
At the heart of those plans was Issue 13 and its accompanying soirée, Haute Cuisine: The Intersection Between Art, High Fashion and Culture. The event was being developed as an ambitious meeting point for local and international chefs, fashion designers, creatives, and representatives from global fashion houses.
However, while carrying out venue visits in Antigua, Devonish was involved in a serious car accident on 29 April 2026.
The injuries she sustained, including damage to her cervical spine alongside the psychological trauma of the collision, left Devonish and her team with no choice but to postpone both Issue 13 and the 2026 Soirée event. International guests preparing to travel to Antigua were subsequently informed of the delay.
The experience has also exposed Devonish to what she describes as a previously unseen and concerning side of the rehabilitation journey following road traffic accidents in Antigua. As she continues to navigate treatment, recovery and the practical challenges surrounding her rehabilitation, she hopes her experience may eventually contribute to a wider conversation around post-accident care and support on the island.
The interruption comes at a significant moment for KQ-Empire.
Known by its readers as KQ, the independent luxury title is approaching its thirteenth glossy edition and has expanded beyond print into podcasting and luxury soft furnishings for home interiors.
Throughout its evolution, KQ has attracted collaborations and interest from internationally recognised luxury names, including Tiffany & Co. and Mercedes-Benz, while building a distinctive creative identity spanning fashion, art, design, travel and culture.
Antigua has remained deeply ingrained into that identity. Through features exploring subjects including Diamond Women and Expat Living: Dual Life Fashion, Devonish and her team have consistently brought the island, its people and its creative energy into KQ’s visual storytelling.
While recovery remains her immediate priority, Devonish says the response from collaborators, readers and sponsors has reinforced her determination to return.
“On a daily basis, we receive correspondence from those who were set to participate in and contribute to Issue 13 and its 2026 soirée,” she said. “We truly understand how disappointing this setback has been and deeply appreciate the well wishes we have received locally and internationally.”
She added: “We promise that 2027 will enable us to make a comeback filled with the brilliance, creativity and innovation that KQ has always stood for.”
