— The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre has received a new mammogram machine following a major fundraising effort involving businesses, donors and members of the Antigua and Barbuda community.
The hospital announced the arrival of the equipment in a social media post, saying the machine was made possible through support generated by its 2025 PINKparty campaign.
A major contribution came from the CIBC ComTrust Foundation, while sponsors, businesses, donors and individuals also contributed to the fundraising effort.
“Every PINKparty purchase, donation, sponsorship and show of support helped get us here,” the medical centre said.
The hospital said the new mammogram will now serve the community and strengthen cancer care in Antigua and Barbuda.
“Today, our team is standing beside something that so many people helped make possible: our brand-new mammogram,” the hospital said.
Mammography is used primarily for the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer, allowing health professionals to identify abnormalities that may not yet be detectable through a physical examination.
The medical centre thanked those who supported the initiative, describing the arrival of the equipment as an example of what can be achieved through community involvement.
“To everyone who helped make it happen, thank you for showing up for cancer care in Antigua & Barbuda,” the hospital said. “This is what we can accomplish when we do it together.”
