Antigua and Barbuda’s junior tourism minister, Janica Adams, earned a special mention from judges at the 2026 Caribbean Tourism Organization Regional Tourism Youth Congress in Georgetown, Guyana, where Anguilla’s Armani Webster won the overall competition.
Adams received the recognition ahead of the announcement of the top three finishers. Colin James, chief executive officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority and chairman of the CTO board of directors, presented her gift.
The 22nd edition of the congress brought together 18 young representatives from Caribbean countries and territories as part of the State of the Tourism Industry Conference.
Participants delivered prepared presentations and responded to a mystery segment, testing their knowledge, creativity and ability to think under pressure. Discussions covered multigenerational travel, social media in destination management, cultural industries and the changing skills required by tourism professionals.
Judges assessed delegates on their subject knowledge, preparedness, presentation skills, relevant content, creative use of audiovisuals, and the clarity and persuasiveness of their responses.
Webster’s victory earned him the title of Regional Junior Minister of Tourism 2026. His prize package included a laptop, other technology devices, educational and mentorship opportunities, and cash prizes.
The Bahamas’ Raya Cargill placed second and was designated junior secretary-general for the 2026–2027 period. Barbados’ Janelle McKenzie finished third.
Chief judge Marie McKenzie praised the delegates’ thoughtful and innovative ideas, encouraging them to continue contributing to the development of Caribbean tourism.
The congress, a CTO initiative dating to 1999, gives young people a platform to examine tourism issues and help shape the industry’s future.
