The Antigua and Barbuda St. John’s Taxi Association Inc. (ABSJTA) conducted a clean-up and beautification exercise on Saturday, 17 October 2026, covering Big Ffryes Beach, Little Ffryes Beach and the surrounding areas.

Undertaken in support of preparations for the 2026/2027 cruise season, the initiative brought members and volunteers together to improve the coastal environment for the benefit of residents and visitors.

Participants collected 40 biodegradable 48-gallon garbage bags filled with bottles, cans, paper, plastics, and other waste. Additional leaves and large debris were also removed from the beaches and surrounding areas.

The initiative reflects the Association’s recognition of the importance of maintaining Antigua and Barbuda’s beaches as valued community spaces and central features of the national tourism product. Preserving these areas supports recreation and public enjoyment while contributing to the quality of the visitor experience and the livelihoods sustained by tourism.

The ABSJTA extends its appreciation to all members, volunteers and supporters who contributed to the exercise. Donations of supplies and refreshments, together with the provision of a dump truck for waste collection and disposal, supported the successful completion of the activity.

Following discussions with the Association, the management of Dennis Beach Bar pledged to support future beach clean-up initiatives through donations of rakes and other essential equipment. This collaboration will help volunteers undertake the exercises more efficiently and support safe and hygienic waste handling.

The ABSJTA has committed to conducting these exercises twice annually: once before the start of the cruise season and again at its conclusion. The Association also encourages other tourism providers to participate in coordinated clean-up and beautification initiatives. The Association’s President stated, “Through sustained collaboration, the tourism sector can contribute to the preservation of the country’s beaches, the enhancement of surrounding areas and the continued appeal of Antigua and Barbuda as a destination.”
