The trial of Karim Edwards, who is accused of causing a fatal traffic collision on Friars Hill Road that claimed the life of medical student Kenneth Mathew and left another person permanently injured, has been postponed to December 8.
The trial was scheduled to begin last week but was delayed because another matter was still being heard before the court. The new date was confirmed during court proceedings Tuesday.
Edwards faces charges of causing death by reckless driving and reckless driving in connection with the October 23, 2022 collision. He pleaded not guilty to both charges in February.
Mathew died from severe brain injuries more than a week after the crash.
Another victim, Priyanjana Das, survived but suffered life-altering injuries, including the loss of her right arm. She also sustained multiple fractures to her left arm and pelvis.
The latest postponement means the criminal proceedings will continue more than four years after the collision.
Edwards is represented by attorney Wendel Alexander.
His trial is now scheduled to begin December 8.
