Prime Minister Gaston Browne says the Deputy Commissioner of Police assigned to assist the prison service will retain his rank, salary and benefits.
Responding to a caller who questioned whether the assignment represented a demotion, Browne said the officer would remain a Deputy Commissioner while providing technical support to the prison.
He explained that the arrangement would involve the police and the Public Service Commission, without affecting the officer’s employment status or entitlements.
Browne said further advice could be sought to clarify the arrangement, which he described as an assignment rather than a permanent prison appointment.
