Former Director of Public Prosecutions Anthony Armstrong will lead the defence for Angela Mejia, who is charged with the murder of nine-year-old Chantel Crump.

Although Armstrong was not present at Monday’s court hearing, representatives confirmed he will take over the case.

Police allege Mejia took Chantel from Grays Farm on 12 March and killed her later that day in Glanvilles.

The court heard the case file remains with investigators. Committal proceedings are scheduled for 17 September.
