Antigua and Barbuda’s 2024 Queen of Carnival, Desrie Markham, has been awarded a parcel of land in recognition of her achievement and cultural contribution.
The symbolic gesture was made by the 2024 title sponsor, National Housing Development and Urban Renewal Company Ltd, during a formal handover ceremony. Officials described the land grant as a fitting tribute to Markham’s reign and a tangible investment in her future.
Markham, who captured the crown earlier this year, was all smiles as she received the deed. The award underscores the growing value placed on Carnival and its role in national identity and youth empowerment.
The Queen of Carnival competition is a highlight of the summer festival season and often serves as a platform for young women to showcase their poise, talent, and commitment to community.
The National Housing Development and Urban Renewal Company has supported the event as part of its wider engagement in nation-building and youth advancement initiatives.
