The Calvin Ayre Foundation (CAF) will invest $500,000 over five years in Antigua and Barbuda’s women’s football, officials announced at a joint press conference on 2 October.

The announcement was made alongside the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) at the Everton Gonsalves Conference Room. Ms Jamilla Kirwan, manager of the CAF, said the foundation’s support would make it the title sponsor of the Women’s Premier League.

The investment is thought to be the largest single private-sector contribution to women’s football in the Caribbean outside of Jamaica and Trinidad.

The Women’s Premier League is set to kick off on Sunday, 5 October, at the ABFA Technical Center with a double-header, starting at 16:00 local time.

Officials said the funding will be used to develop the league, support players, and raise the standard of women’s football across Antigua and Barbuda.
