Police are investigating two unrelated suicide attempts that occurred hours apart on Saturday, leaving a woman from Freetown and a man from Ottos recovering at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.

In the first case, emergency services were called to a home in Freetown shortly before 10 a.m. after a woman was found unresponsive. Investigators said she had swallowed several prescription tablets following a period of emotional distress linked to relationship problems. Paramedics transported her to the hospital, where doctors stabilized her condition and admitted her for monitoring.

Later that afternoon, around 3:45 p.m., police received another call — this time from a man in Ottos who reported that he had consumed a mixture of pills and alcohol. Officers and medical personnel rushed to the scene and took him to the same medical facility for treatment. He remained alert and cooperative during questioning, according to police.

Authorities said both individuals are in stable condition as investigations continue.

Police are urging anyone experiencing emotional turmoil or suicidal thoughts to seek help immediately. Assistance is available through the Mental Health Centre at 462-5465 or by speaking with a healthcare provider or counselor.
