Browne Resigns Senate Seat Ahead of By-Election; Questions Raised Over Rival’s Eligibility

Browne confirmed that his resignation, submitted to the President of the Senate, took effect on Feb. 18. Section 39 of the Constitution bars a sitting senator from contesting a seat in the House without first vacating the position.

The by-election is scheduled for March 16.
