A new air link between the Caribbean and West Africa is expected to come on stream later this month as Nigerian airline Air Peace prepares to begin scheduled service connecting Antigua and Barbuda with Lagos.

The service, which launches on May 25, will operate twice each month with a stop in Barbados, giving travellers a direct connection between Antigua and Nigeria for the first time in recent years.

Chief Executive Officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin James, said the arrangement supports efforts to broaden the country’s tourism markets and improve international access beyond traditional visitor sources.

Officials say the flights could also encourage greater business activity, tourism growth and cultural ties between the Caribbean and Africa at a time when regional destinations are seeking new opportunities in overseas markets.

Under the proposed schedule, flights will depart Antigua at 9 a.m. before continuing through Barbados to Lagos, arriving the following day. The return service will follow the same routing before landing back in Antigua.

Tickets for the route are already being offered through Air Peace’s booking platform.
