A Beretta APX 9mm pistol and seven rounds of ammunition
Wakeme Rodney, 32, of Bendals has pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition after police found a Beretta APX 9mm pistol and seven rounds of ammunition during a checkpoint operation on Bendals Main Road on May 14.
Rodney admitted the offences before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel on Monday.
Police said officers stopped Rodney’s truck after noticing he was not wearing a seatbelt.
A search of the vehicle uncovered the firearm inside a black Adidas side bag on the front passenger side.
Rodney reportedly told police he was going to turn it in, claiming he had found the weapon near Masonry Product on Big Creek Main Road.
He was remanded to prison, and sentencing was set for May 27.
