Lights Out, Scissors Out: Transport Board Worker Guilty After Office Brawl

A routine end to the workday erupted into chaos at the Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board when two female employees clashed in a darkened room — leaving one wounded and the other facing prison.

Rockell Browne was convicted of wounding her colleague after Justice John Spencer rejected her claim that she acted in self-defence during the December 2022 confrontation.

The court heard that the trouble exploded as the complainant entered a room to collect her bag after clocking out. The women crossed paths in the doorway, where Browne allegedly shoved her colleague into a light switch, plunging the room into darkness.

    A fight immediately broke out.

Another person rushed in to separate the women, but amid the commotion, Browne grabbed a pair of scissors and wounded the complainant three times.

Browne insisted she had been attacked by both women and claimed the complainant had repeatedly bumped into her at work. She said she reported the behaviour to three supervisors, but one supervisor denied ever receiving such a complaint.

She also alleged that the person who intervened joined the fight and was romantically involved with the complainant.

Justice Spencer was unconvinced and returned a guilty verdict following the judge-only trial.

Crown Counsel Curtis Cornelius prosecuted the case, while attorney Wendel Alexander represented Browne.

Browne was remanded in custody and will return to court for sentencing on Sept. 25.
