Local meteorologists are monitoring an area of low pressure associated with a tropical wave several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

The system’s showers and thunderstorms have shown little change in organization over the past several hours. However, environmental conditions remain somewhat favorable for development, and a tropical depression could form within the next day or two.

The system is moving westward to west-northwestward at about 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.

Its chance of formation is estimated at 60% through both the next 48 hours and seven days.

Conditions are forecast to become less favorable by the weekend, potentially ending the system’s opportunity for further development.

Local meteorologists will continue monitoring the system as it progresses across the Atlantic.
