    Earthquake Recorded North of Antigua

    An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 struck early on Friday morning north of Antigua, according to the UWI Seismic Research Centre (SRC).

    The tremor was recorded at approximately 3:56 am local time (07:56 UTC) and occurred at a depth of 17 kilometres. The epicentre was located at latitude 17.64N and longitude 62.00W.

    Preliminary data places the quake about 61 kilometres north-northwest of Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda. It was also situated 89 kilometres northeast of Basseterre in Saint Kitts and Nevis, and 97 kilometres north-northeast of Brades, Montserrat.

    The SRC noted that the information was generated automatically by computer algorithms and may be revised following further analysis.

    There have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

    Earthquakes of this magnitude are generally not expected to cause significant structural damage but may be felt in nearby areas depending on depth and local conditions. The SRC continues to monitor regional seismic activity.
