_St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda_ — The Cabinet has approved a new public education campaign aimed at raising awareness about prostate cancer, marking the government’s latest step in addressing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through early detection and prevention.

Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph received Cabinet backing to spearhead the initiative, which will complement the ongoing cervical cancer campaign. The programme will include public outreach, education sessions, and screening opportunities for men across the country.

Announcing the decision during Thursday’s post-Cabinet briefing, Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said the campaign responds to growing concern about the impact of prostate cancer in Antigua and Barbuda.

“The Cabinet endorsed the minister’s proposal and approved the engagement of a local expert to advise on and oversee the campaign,” Merchant said.

The initiative is part of the Ministry of Health’s broader strategy to combat non-communicable diseases, which remain among the leading causes of death in the country. Officials hope the campaign will encourage more men to seek regular screenings and medical advice.

Further details, including the campaign rollout schedule, are expected in the coming weeks.
