(CMC) – Trinidad police said on Tuesday that a 52-year-old man is due to appear before a Port of Spain magistrate “in due course” after being charged with causing the death of a two-year-old child in November 2023.

The child died five days after allegedly being severely beaten.

Police said that they had received legal advice from the T&T Director of Public Prosecutions in charging Marvin Rigette of Beetham Garden, on the outskirts of the capital, with murder.

The charge “stems from the tragic death of Angelo Farrel, a two-year-old child, who was allegedly beaten on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Beetham Gardens,” police said.

“Medical treatment was sought for the child at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mount Hope, but sadly he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, November 23, 2023,” the police added.
