Caribbean Union Bank has issued a scammer alert, urging customers to exercise extra caution when shopping online or responding to unknown text messages. The bank has noted an increase in fraudulent websites, SMS messages, and social media ads that attempt to lure users with unbelievable deals or claim urgent action is needed to “protect” their accounts. These scams are designed to trick individuals into sharing sensitive banking information or making payments for goods they did not initiate.

To help customers stay safe, the bank has provided the following online shopping safety tips:

    • Shop only on trusted, secure websites – look for “https” in the URL
    • Be wary of deals that seem too good to be true – they often are
    • Never share your card PIN, password, or OTP with anyone
    • Avoid making payments via wire transfer or money orders to unfamiliar sellers
    • Regularly update your mailing address, phone number, and email to ensure you receive all account-related communications
    • Regularly check your emails for communication from your bank as transaction alerts often come to this method

If customers suspect their card has been compromised, they are advised to contact their bank immediately and provide details for the investigation. The bank emphasizes that customer safety remains its top priority and is committed to helping keep finances secure.
