Five residents of the Boys Training School sparked alarm on Thursday after escaping the facility and embarking on an overnight joyride in a stolen vehicle.

According to reports, the group made off with a vehicle taken from a car sales lot on Old Parham Road, reportedly owned by a Syrian businessman. Their brief but dramatic getaway included a stop at a nearby petrol station where they filled up the tank and made a curious purchase—gasoline and condoms—raising questions about their intentions.

The incident prompted a swift response from police, who eventually intercepted the group in Golden Grove. Four of the boys were found inside the stolen vehicle and taken into custody. The fifth returned to the facility voluntarily before sunrise.

While all five have since been accounted for, the circumstances surrounding their escape remain unclear. Authorities have yet to explain how the boys managed to breach security, and the episode has renewed scrutiny of the safeguards in place at the institution.

Families and staff were said to be on edge throughout the night, as news of the escape spread. The Ministry responsible for youth rehabilitation is expected to review the matter and determine what corrective measures may be necessary.
