Antigua and Barbuda’s pride, Miss Desrie Markham, returned home with tears of joy and humility after making history over the weekend by being crowned the first Miss Antigua Barbuda to win the prestigious Caribbean Universe Pageant. Her remarkable performance solidified her this crown.

Miss Markham was accompanied by her dedicated chaperone, Mr. Mario Thomas, and her trainer and artistic director, Mr. Owen Jackson, Deputy Director of the Cultural Division. The duo has worked closely with her since she earned the title of Miss Antigua Barbuda Queen of Carnival in 2024.

Mr. Jackson, who has mentored Miss Markham for over eight years through her involvement with the National Youth Theatre, expressed his pride in her growth and accomplishment. “ _Desrie is the embodiment of beauty and brains,” he said. “She exemplifies the training she has received over the years. Watching her evolution into a confident and powerful young woman has been nothing short of inspiring_.”

The Hon. Daryll S. Matthew, Minister of Education, Sports, and Creative Industries, joined with the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission (ABFC) including Chairperson Ambassador Elizabeth Makhoul, and the Board of Commissioners to congratulate Queen Markham on her groundbreaking achievement.

Minister Matthew remarked: “ _You embodied the pride and spirit of Antigua and Barbuda with every step. Your performance radiated grace, intelligence, and brilliance. We are beyond proud of you_.”

The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission salutes Miss Desrie Markham for her stellar representation on the regional stage and looks forward to supporting her continued journey as a cultural ambassador.
