A man from Johnson’s Village in Antigua and Barbuda is recovering at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre after sustaining a fractured face and a gunshot wound during a violent altercation over the weekend.

The incident took place in the early hours in Royal Gardens, reportedly following a domestic dispute involving the victim and his 18-year-old girlfriend, who also resides in the area.

Antigua and Barbuda Police say the situation escalated when the young woman’s brother allegedly intervened after witnessing the man pulling his sister during an argument.

In an apparent effort to defend her, the brother is accused of striking the victim on the left side of his face with a hammer, causing multiple fractures.

The violence continued when the victim was later shot in the foot. Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances of the shooting and have not yet identified the individual responsible.
