On July 21, 2025, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Antigua and Barbuda partnered with the Antigua and Barbuda National Public Library to host a cultural education session for participants in the Library’s Summer Camp Programme.
The session was led by Mrs. Yili Zheng, a Chinese descendant residing in Antigua and Barbuda, who introduced students to Chinese heritage, history, and values through an engaging discussion. The interactive event was facilitated and translated by Chinese language educator Mrs. Ninette Benta-Lares.
Students explored cultural parallels between China and Antigua and Barbuda, including national symbols, heroes, traditions, and core values. Mrs. Zheng also shared personal anecdotes and historical reflections, encouraging participants to embrace cultural exchange and become future ambassadors of mutual understanding.
Library Director Mrs. Ryllis Mannix described the session as a valuable opportunity for young people to broaden their global perspectives through meaningful cross-cultural engagement.
Students responded enthusiastically, with one participant from Potters Primary School calling it one of the most educational sessions of the summer. A student from Antigua Girls’ High School expressed newfound interest in Chinese culture and a desire to visit the country one day.
