Authorities have confirmed that a post-mortem examination has been completed on the body of slain businessman George “Charlie” Barnes, as police continue their investigation into his killing.

Government Pathologist Dr. Petra Miller-Nanton performed the examination on September 29, according to reliable sources. However, police have not released the official findings, citing the ongoing nature of the homicide investigation.

Barnes, 74, a well-known gas station owner, was shot and killed outside his home on Nugent Street, Ottos Newtown, around 10:20 p.m. on September 12. Reports indicate he had just arrived home when an unidentified gunman approached and opened fire, striking him in the chest before fleeing the scene.

The murder of the respected businessman sparked widespread grief and anger across Antigua and Barbuda, particularly within the business community, where Barnes was admired for his dedication and generosity.

Investigators say they are pursuing several leads but have not determined a motive.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or report anonymously to Crimestoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).
