    Antiguan Scholar Jewel B Thomas Earns PhD in Public Health in US

    An Antiguan woman has achieved a significant academic milestone, earning a doctoral degree in public health from a leading university in the United States.

    Jewel B Thomas graduated on Saturday, 13 December 2025, from East Tennessee State University, where she completed a PhD in Public Health through the university’s College of Public Health. Her achievement places her among a small number of Antiguans to have attained a doctoral qualification at that institution.

    Dr Thomas described the accomplishment as a proud moment for herself and for Antigua and Barbuda, noting the years of dedication and perseverance required to reach this level of study.

    She paid tribute to her family for their continued encouragement, giving special thanks to her mother, Allison, and her aunt for their unwavering support throughout her academic journey.

    Dr Thomas also expressed gratitude to her tutors, friends and well-wishers, acknowledging their guidance and encouragement as instrumental in helping her complete the programme.

    Her achievement has been welcomed as a source of national pride and a positive example for aspiring students in Antigua and Barbuda.
