The Booby Alley housing redevelopment project is expected to be substantially completed by June, with final handover of the units projected for August, Prime Minister Gaston Browne said during his weekly appearance on Pointe FM.

Browne said construction of the new housing complex in the Point area is progressing steadily and will soon reach its final stages.

“I think by about June it will be substantially completed, and about August they will hand over to us and then we will start the distribution,” the prime minister said.

The project is part of the government’s effort to redevelop the Booby Alley community, replacing older structures with modern housing units and improved infrastructure.

Browne described the development as a major improvement for the area, noting that the surrounding roads will also need to be upgraded to match the quality of the new housing.

“That’s a beautiful facility,” he said, adding that the area will require roads “befitting of the kind of homes that we’re building.”

The redevelopment of Booby Alley has been a central component of the government’s urban renewal efforts aimed at improving housing conditions and transforming one of St. John’s historically underserved communities.
