CABINET NOTES: The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening national security and public safety with the imminent installation of the Government’s previously announced island-wide CCTV surveillance system.

Cabinet has been advised that the necessary equipment has already been shipped and is expected to arrive within the next 30 days. Installation is scheduled to commence immediately thereafter, with full deployment anticipated within the next two months.

A total of forty-three (43) strategic locations across the island have been identified for the installation of high-definition surveillance cameras. These key sites include major public spaces, commercial areas, and critical tourist corridors such as Fort James and Bay Street.

The targeted placement of cameras is intended to enhance crime detection and deterrence, improve public order management, and support law enforcement investigations.

The CCTV network will significantly strengthen the operational capacity of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, enabling real-time monitoring and more rapid response to incidents.

The system will also serve as an important tool in combatting muggings, theft, and other petty crimes, particularly in areas frequented by residents and visitors.

In addition to the technological upgrades, Cabinet has been informed that police presence and surveillance activities will be intensified on high-traffic tourist days to further safeguard visitors and maintain Antigua and Barbuda’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination.

Cabinet underscored that this initiative forms part of a broader national security strategy aimed at modernizing law enforcement capabilities, protecting livelihoods, and ensuring the continued safety of citizens and tourists alike.

The Government remains steadfast in its efforts to provide a secure environment that supports economic growth, community well-being, and sustainable tourism development.
