Residents of Ottos Newtown are voicing frustration over what they describe as years of neglect of their community, pointing the blame squarely at their parliamentary representative, Hon. Daryl Matthew.

Once considered a modest area to live, Ottos Newtown has, according to residents, deteriorated into a community plagued by poor infrastructure including deteriorating roads, inadequate sanitation, lack of consistent water supply, increased criminal activities and derelict vehicles everywhere showing a glaring absence of representation.

Equally concerning is the state of the drainage systems, residents complain that sidewalk drains are not being properly maintained and many are filled with debris and garbage, preventing the free flow of water, during periods of rainfall.

Garbage disposal is another pressing concern. Piles of uncollected bulk waste can be seen scattered throughout parts of Ottos Newtown, creating not only an eyesore but also a public health risk. Residents argue that the lack of a structured and reliable waste management approach reflects a broader pattern of neglect.

Public sanitation facilities have also not been spared. The community’s public bathrooms are reportedly locked and surrounded by overgrown shrubs, giving the area an abandoned and unhygienic appearance.

Adding to the discontent is the condition of the Constituency Office. Community members have noted that the MP has not been to the Constituency office since the last election and that the office appeared largely abandoned and poorly maintained for an extended period, with grass growing up to the windows.

However, they complain that the office is only recently receiving attention with efforts to clean it up in time for the upcoming general elections. Many view this sudden activity with scepticism.

Beyond the physical deterioration, residents argue the lack of representation and what they describe as consistently poor performance have eroded public confidence in their MP.

“** _Daryl forget about us_** _”_ one resident remarked. Others feel the MP is disconnected from the area and their concerns have gone unheard for far too long.

For many residents, the issue is not merely about infrastructure but about accountability. There is a growing sentiment that representation should be continuous and proactive, not reactive or tied to political cycles.

Many residents have come to the daunting conclusion that voting is a waste of time, as nothing seems to be happening for them.

They say the present representative is the worst they have seen; having given him their vote as a Labour Party Rep, they are highly disappointed.

Residents of the area are calling on the Prime Minister to do something to help them as they don’t have representation, or they are prepared to vote him out.
