POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH OF ELDERLY MAN
St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda
The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of a 75-year-old man at the McKinnons Salt Pond.
Around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, May 15, police officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, along with members of the Serious Crime Unit and the Forensic Evidence Recovery Unit, responded to a report of a body seen floating in the McKinnons Salt Pond, north of the Mystic Beach Bar.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed the lifeless body of an elderly male floating on his back in the shallow end of the pond. The deceased was identified as 75-year-old Eric Colbourne of Athill Street, Villa.
Initial investigations revealed that Mr. Colbourne was last seen walking along Runaway Beach Road sometime during the day on Tuesday, May 12.
The body was removed from the water with the assistance of personnel from the St. John’s Fire Station. A medical doctor later visited the scene and officially pronounced him dead at 7:06 p.m. Investigations remain ongoing.
The Police Administration extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.
