Cabinet has approved additional measures to expand affordable home ownership as the Government advances several major housing developments across Antigua and Barbuda.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne informed Cabinet that the Booby Alley Housing Project will be supported by a comprehensive management structure responsible for maintaining the community, administering the development, managing sewage systems and overseeing its solar energy infrastructure.
Cabinet also agreed that planned housing developments in Bolans and Barbuda will be delivered under the Government’s Social Housing Programme using rent-to-own arrangements.
The initiative is designed to help families transition into home ownership while providing mortgage financing through the National Housing Programme for applicants who are unable to qualify for loans from commercial banks.
The Bolans and Barbuda housing projects, which are being funded with support from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, represent an investment of approximately US$20 million.
The Government said the programme is part of its broader strategy to expand access to affordable, resilient and sustainable housing across Antigua and Barbuda.
