The U.S. military says four people were killed in a strike on a vessel suspected of trafficking drugs through the Caribbean.

U.S. Southern Command said the operation was carried out Aug. 25 by Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere under the direction of SOUTHCOM Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan.

According to the command, intelligence confirmed that the “go-fast” vessel was actively involved in narcotics trafficking and travelling along established drug-smuggling routes.

The military described those killed as “narco-terrorists” but did not disclose their identities, nationalities or the precise location of the strike. It also did not say what drugs were allegedly aboard the vessel or whether any contraband was recovered.

“Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere continues executing precise, lethal operations against the cartels,” Donovan said. “We will hunt, disrupt and defeat these narco-terrorist networks.”

SOUTHCOM said it remains committed to combating cartel-related violence across the region and preventing illicit drugs from reaching the United States.
