New Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority Chief Executive Officer Kurt Menal has outlined plans to make V.C. Bird International Airport safer, cleaner, more reliable and efficient while improving the passenger experience.

Menal, who assumed the position about a month ago, was formally introduced to Cabinet on Wednesday alongside Airport Authority Board Chairman Rolston Potter.

He told Cabinet he was impressed by the authority’s workforce and recent infrastructure investments, including the rehabilitation of the runway and airside facilities.

Menal said one of his first priorities is establishing a clear strategic direction aligned with the government’s aviation and economic development goals. A five-year strategic plan will be developed in consultation with the government, the board, employees and industry stakeholders. It will complement the airport master plan previously approved by Cabinet.

The CEO also plans to improve the authority’s commercial performance, increase revenue and make better use of available terminal space.

The development strategy will support Antigua and Barbuda’s growing premium tourism market while continuing to serve the wider tourism industry.

Menal said the authority will work with the Ministry of Tourism and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority to strengthen airline partnerships and explore new routes, particularly to Central and South America.

He has also launched a 90-day engagement programme with employees, government agencies and other stakeholders to better understand the authority’s operations and organisational culture.

Cabinet welcomed Menal’s presentation and pledged its support for the continued development of safe, modern, efficient and passenger-focused airports.
