The Antigua and Barbuda Reparations Support Committee (ABRSC) joins the people of Antigua and Barbuda, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the African Union (AU) and the African Diaspora in commemorating Africa-CARICOM Day 2026 on September 7.
The ABRSC recalls the historic inaugural Africa-CARICOM Summit of September 7, 2021, when then Chairman of CARICOM and Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, the Honourable Gaston Browne, proposed that September 7 be observed annually as Africa-CARICOM Day. He called for deeper cooperation in areas including trade, investment, transportation, diplomacy and development, while emphasizing the considerable global bargaining power that Africa and CARICOM can exercise through greater unity.
ABRSC regards this day as an important affirmation of our shared ancestry, cultural identity and collective aspirations. It provides an opportunity to renew our commitment to building a more strategic partnership between Africa and the Caribbean nations endowed with immense human, cultural and natural resources. Our collective strength encompasses agriculture, energy, minerals, the blue economy, tourism, technology, creative industries, education, financial services and a young and increasingly connected population.
The greatest resource shared by Africa and the Caribbean is our people and our collective capacity to determine our own future. Africa-CARICOM unity is inseparable from the pursuit of reparatory justice. ABRSC however emphasizes that this vision must move from aspiration to measurable action and tangible outcomes.
ABRSC calls upon governments, regional institutions, civil society organizations and citizens throughout Africa and the Caribbean to deepen this partnership, advance advocacy and action for reparatory justice, and to ensure that the bonds of ancestry are transformed into bonds of cooperation, economic opportunity, cultural renewal and collective advancement.
