Jurors in the High Court have been shown a bloodstained metal pipe and photographs of a burnt-out vehicle during the murder trial of Uroy Joseph.

Joseph is accused of helping to kill Arthur James, whose burnt remains were found in Freetown in October 2021.

Forensic officer Sergeant Chapman testified that Joseph identified the pipe, found inside a zinc fence at a Liberta property, as the weapon allegedly used to attack James. Blood found on the pipe was later said to match the remains.

Police also presented CCTV footage which investigating officer Corporal Amethyst George said showed Joseph and one of the deceased men attempting to move James’s vehicle.

DNA testing, using a sample from James’s daughter, was presented as confirming the identity of the remains.

Joseph’s cousins, Zamir and Obasic Ogarro, were originally charged alongside him but have since died.

The trial is continuing, with more than 30 witnesses expected to testify.
