Police are investigating a drive-by shooting in Villa that left a man in his 50s hospitalized early Sunday.

The shooting occurred shortly after 4 a.m. as the victim was making his way home from a party.

According to reports, a vehicle approached and several shots were fired at the man before the occupants fled the area.

The victim was struck in the abdomen but managed to reach a nearby residence, where he collapsed on the gallery.

Emergency Medical Services personnel transported him to hospital, where he remains under medical care.

The shooting comes amid heightened concern over gun violence and increased police patrols.

Lawmakers are also expected to debate proposed tougher minimum sentences for firearm-related crimes when the House of Representatives meets Monday and Tuesday, including penalties of up to 30 years.
