The Antigua and Barbuda-flagged bulk carrier Cape Dao was reported to be sinking after an unsuccessful rescue attempt, weeks after a projectile strike killed one crew member in the Strait of Hormuz.

Maritime risk management group Vanguard reported the vessel’s condition on Wednesday, according to Reuters.

The Cape Dao was struck by an unknown projectile on Sept. 23 while transiting northeast of Khasab, Oman. The strike hit its bridge and accommodation area, killing one seafarer.

The report comes amid further attacks on commercial shipping in the strategic waterway, including the sinking of the Singapore-flagged container ship GFS Pride.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said GFS Pride was struck by an unknown projectile on Tuesday, causing damage and a fire. All 21 crew members were evacuated without injuries.

Another Singapore-flagged container ship, GFS Giselle, sustained hull damage after being hit by a projectile on Wednesday. It reached a safe anchorage with all 22 crew members aboard, the authority said.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said a vessel struck naval mines and sank while using what they described as an “unauthorised” route through the strait.

At least 24 seafarers have been killed in 106 confirmed maritime incidents since the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran began in February, according to the International Maritime Organization.

The Strait of Hormuz connects the Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. About a fifth of global oil and gas shipments normally pass through the waterway.
