Officials have requested a school holiday for the Tuesday of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda, with Monday already being a holiday.
Police Superintendent Rodney Ellis said the request remained unanswered as of Saturday, with even a half-day being sought.
The issue arose during the Browne and Browne Show when the host asked how security restrictions would affect schools, specifically Antigua Grammar School.
“We haven’t got any answers yet,” said Ellis, who heads the Police Traffic Department.
Everton Barnes, co-lead of the CHOGM Media and Public Affairs Committee, also mentioned discussion of a possible midterm school holiday. Neither official announced an approved closure.
The discussion came as officials outlined temporary road closures and restrictions on pedestrian access around the Performing Arts Centre and High Street.
Ellis said security operations in that area could last approximately six to seven hours, with access expected to resume around 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Barnes stressed that restrictions would apply to particular locations and times, rather than amount to an islandwide lockdown.
