Grenada has welcomed 60 healthcare professionals from Ghana to strengthen its health services, nearly a year after Antigua and Barbuda recruited more than 100 Ghanaian healthcare workers.
The nurses, doctors and other medical staff arrived on 13 October under Ghana’s Labour Export Programme. They were officially welcomed three days later.
The programme provides overseas employment for Ghanaian professionals while strengthening ties between the two countries.
Ghana’s Labour Minister Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum said the partnership would support professional development and improve healthcare.
Grenada’s Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell thanked Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama and encouraged the workers to consider Grenada their home. They are expected to serve for two years, though Mitchell said he hoped they would stay longer.
