Last evening at the CHOGM town hall meeting, I was extremely flabbergasted & disappointed to see how Washington Bramble, a citizen and well-known personality in our community, was treated.
The floor was open for anyone in attendance to ask the panelist at head table any respectful question of concern, in reference to CHOGM.
Like the few persons who went before him/her, Washington addressed those at the head table in a respectful manner and asked about the security of the visitors who will be here for CHOGM.
From my vantage point, sadly and distastefully so, the pertinent question was acknowledged but brushed off by the minister at the head table. Washington then rebutted with no acrimony for an answer.
Following his rebuttal, the police immediately preyed on him / her.
In my view, the police actions were not justified. I only conclude that what was seen appeared to be police brutality…. Yesterday, was certainly noted as a dark day on Antigua’s calendar.
The song by King Short Shirt immediately came to mind “When they have & power & authority they don’t give a damn about anybody.”
It is a bit unfortunate that the police did not publish a public apology to Washington but instead they published an article this morning in a news portal that their actions were because Washington was wanted by the police.
Now if that is the case why was Washington not apprehended at the time he /she was entering into the meeting and why did the police have to be so abrasive to a citizen who was not creating any civil unrest?
