Browne promises roads and drainage improvements for Oliver’s housing development in early 2027
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has assured residents of the Oliver’s housing development in Antigua and Barbuda that outstanding road, kerb and drainage works will be addressed, with improvements expected to begin early next year.
Responding to concerns raised by a resident, Browne acknowledged frustration over the condition of infrastructure in the community and explained that competing national projects had delayed the work.
He said workers from National Housing had been reassigned to the National Performing Arts Centre, while Public Works resources were being used to prepare roads for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
According to Browne, these priorities had affected the government’s ability to complete infrastructure works in housing developments.
The Prime Minister said he anticipated that work could begin early in 2027, although he did not provide a specific start date.
He also disclosed that Parliamentary Representative Anthony Smith had raised the concerns of Oliver’s residents during Cabinet discussions.
Browne maintained that the government remained committed to ensuring National Housing developments receive the roads, drainage and other supporting infrastructure needed by residents.
