Former Miss Antigua and Barbuda 2016 and TikTok content creator Leanda Ann Norville was choked, thrown to the ground and cut with a sharp object during an attack by an unknown assailant along Five Islands Main Road on Monday afternoon.

The 35-year-old reported to the police that the assailant took her gold chain, mobile phone and headphones before fleeing into nearby bushes after a female motorist stopped to assist her.

Norville explained that she was walking from her home in Hatton to the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus (UWIFC), as she routinely does for her daily workout, when she noticed a man approaching from the opposite direction on foot.

She said she was wearing headphones and having observed nothing about the man that appeared suspicious she continued walking. However, as they were about to pass each other, the man allegedly crossed the road, grabbed her around the neck and pushed her to the ground before physically assaulting her.

According to Norville, the suspect was dark-skinned, of average height and had plaited hair.

Norville said she fought back and screamed for help as several vehicles passed without initially stopping. During the struggle, the assailant allegedly produced a sharp object and inflicted cuts to her waist and hands as she attempted to defend herself.

A female motorist eventually stopped and exited her vehicle to assist. The assailant reportedly fled into the surrounding bushes with Norville’s gold chain, phone and headphones. A male motorist also stopped shortly afterwards to offer assistance.

The female motorist contacted officers at the Gray’s Farm Police Station who responded quickly to the scene and searched the surrounding area for the assailant. Norville and both witnesses reportedly provided statements.

Police have confirmed that the incident is currently under active investigations at this time.

Norville’s mother, Collet Amin, expressed relief that her daughter was safe but shaken up, saying, “I am thankful my daughter is okay, as the situation could have been much worse.”

Norville and her family have also expressed their gratitude to the two motorists who stopped to assist her, thanking them for their swift response and willingness to help during the ordeal.
