Motorists are being advised to expect temporary traffic restrictions in several areas of St. John’s on Saturday as Antigua and Barbuda hosts activities associated with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026.
According to a public advisory issued by CHOGM organizers, traffic management measures will primarily affect roads surrounding Government House to facilitate the movement of delegates and other authorized attendees.
The affected roads and locations include:
Upper Church Street
Cross Street
Old Parham Road
Lower Factory Road, extending toward Long Street
The area leading to the APUA Building (Big Church)
Newgate Street
The area extending toward the YMCA and back to the Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG)
The ARG has been designated as a parking area for authorized attendees participating in the scheduled activities.
Motorists are being urged to exercise caution, follow instructions from traffic officers and comply with temporary traffic arrangements.
Organizers said Saturday’s restrictions will be relatively limited compared with those expected on Tuesday, Nov. 3, when the CHOGM opening ceremony is scheduled to take place.
More significant traffic disruptions and road closures are anticipated on that day as Antigua and Barbuda welcomes Commonwealth leaders and delegations.
The public is being encouraged to plan journeys accordingly and monitor official announcements for further traffic updates.
The Commonwealth summit is scheduled for Nov. 1-4 in St. John’s, bringing together government leaders, ministers and other representatives from across the Commonwealth.
