Ministers and senior officials from across the Eastern Caribbean gathered in Antigua on 28 April 2025 for the OECS 30×30 Ministerial Biodiversity Roundtable, focused on advancing the region’s efforts to meet the global 30×30 conservation target by 2030.

The meeting, hosted by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda in collaboration with the OECS, explored regional strategies to protect 30% of the world’s ecosystems. Discussions covered the establishment of a Regional Conservation Centre, data sharing, and aligning national biodiversity strategies with broader global goals.

Sir Molwyn Joseph, Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs, opened the event with a call for urgent regional cooperation in the face of escalating environmental threats. Dr Didacus Jules, OECS Director General, highlighted the need for integrated governance and youth engagement in the region’s biodiversity planning.

Antigua’s Department of Environment played a leading role in the roundtable, reflecting the country’s leadership in conservation efforts, including the restoration of Redonda Island and management of the Northeast Marine Management Area. The roundtable concluded with a commitment to develop a roadmap for the OECS 30×30 Transformation Programme.
