A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempting to murder another man during a 2020 beach attack.

Jeconiah Carbon was convicted in February after a jury found he lured the victim—whom he had been involved with in a two-year relationship—under the pretence of a sexual encounter, then stabbed him in the neck and body.

During the trial, prosecutors revealed that Carbon, then 19, had often requested favours from the victim, including an iPhone. One such request—a $100 loan—had been granted. Carbon later agreed to a sexual meeting but launched a knife attack instead.

His defence lawyer argued he acted under emotional distress after trying to withdraw consent, but the jury ruled the attack was premeditated.
